2004 Sansa Workshop

I found the SaNsA experience enormously inspiring and rewarding. It enabled me to work beside artists whose practise often derived from traditional craft skills such as carving in wood and stone, wall painting and ceramics. Certain qualities found in my own work, such as the interest in the handmade, the use of local materials, the response to locality, were also shared by the artists I met there.

My invitation to take part in Sansa gave me the opportunity to develop further links with Wales and west Africa, links begun with the Cyfuniad International Artists Workshops held in Wales in 1999 and 2001. SaNsA has created further possibilities for exhibition and exchange and a means to engage with international networks outside Africa and create further opportunities for projects and the sharing of ideas.
