ABOUT
SaNsA INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS' WORKSHOP 2004
KUMASI, GHANA
30 January - 10 February 2004
SaNsA International Workshop was held at
the Department of Painting & Sculpture,
College of Art, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi
from 30 January to 10 February 2004.
SaNsA is part of the family of Triangle
Workshops founded by Robert Loder, a British
patron of the arts, and Sculptor Anthony Caro. The Triangle Workshops
started in New
York in 1982 to give artists the opportuntiy for uninterrupted periods
of time in which to
work alongside artists from around the world.
The special nature of the Workshops has allowed for positive critical
dialogue between
artists of different cultures. These Workshops have been successful all
across Africa, the
Caribbean, Asia, America, Australia and Europe. This is the first time
such a Workshop
has taken place in Ghana. So far, there has been a tremendous response
from artists
here and abroad. SaNsA is proud to include the following artists:
Kwamivi Zewuze Adzraku (Ghana) Kwame Akoto - Almighty God (Ghana), Kevin
Amankwah - kari-kacha, (Ghana), lgnace K. Mensah (Cote d'lvoire), Felix
Annor
Anim (Ghana), Ibn Pori Watts (USA), Leticia Azuru Avoka (Ghana), Ossei

SaNsA is based on a concept of many pieces of different cloth -that are
stitched together
to form a whole. It derives from the Asante word nsansaa and Ewe sasa
denoting
diversity and unity - which is the theme of -our Workshop. Our mix of
artists reflects a
diversity of approaches to art, encompassing street painting, international
and
indigenous art practices. We hope to encourage innovative use of local
materials.
Working Committee: Atta Kwami, Pamela Clarkson, Kevin Amankwah,
Caterina Niklaus
The results of the workshop were exhibited in Kumasi and Accra, courtesy
of Alliance Française, in co-operation with Goethe-institut, Accra.
SaNsA appreciates the patronage of all concerned.
