Wasanii [ Workshop ]

The first Wasanii International Workshop in Kenya took place at Elsamere Field Studies Centre on the shores of Lake Naivasha in 1997. The Kuona Trust, established in 1995, provided the basic organisation. Nearly every year since the first workshop, Wasanii workshops have taken place, at Elsamere or on the island of Lamu in 2004, alongside local workshops.

Kuona [ Residency]

www.kuonatrust.org

In 1998, Kuona Trust set up a residency programme for international artists to work in Nairobi for up to eight weeks. Artists from Taiwan, Egypt, Jamaica, Ghana, South Africa and India have worked with artists from Kenya during residencies held both at Lake Naivasha and in Nairobi. Residencies involve outreach by way of lectures and slide talks at Kuona and at schools and the National Museum.

Kuona Trust has also helped initiate workshops in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania and artists from East Africa have participated in residencies and workshops co-organised by Kuona in Egypt, UK, USA and South Africa.
